Equity Extend is a series of monthly casual small-group happy hour, the goal being to meet get to know inspirational movers and shakers in our community on a more intimate level. We'll grab a drink and some food, then hear a brief talk by a featured architect / designer / contractor / etc. on their path through the AEC profession. There will then be time for Q+A afterwards, and of course, plenty of networking.
Our featured guest for June is Liz York, FAIA!
Liz York is the Associate Director for Quality and Sustainability at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Appointed as the first Chief Sustainability Officer for CDC in 2008, she establishes sustainability in CDC policy and operations, implements healthy and sustainable work environments, and facilitates staff involvement in sustainability efforts. She is a registered architect, and holds a BS and an MARCH, both from Georgia Tech.
Liz’s leadership has strengthened policy and understanding around the health impacts of the physical environment, gender issues in design, access to healthy food, and design effects on health equity.
She embraces the architect’s role as steward of societal values and focuses attention on policy and tools that help move the profession towards problem solving for these larger issues.
